ProMO Archive for Soultree EP Release Party
As part of appearing, showing up, honoring the labor, and archiving our work in a rapidly digitizing and quickly shifting world I want to hold space on this platform to recognize the amazing work of my friend Mo Beats on the promo for our show. These images are too beautiful not to revive.
In bringing forth the image, lightness, and likeness of the environment I grew up in ~ I’m thinking about the ways the images we create, the experiences we curate, and the environments we nourish together determine so much for our society.
Here in Chicago where much of the original prairie & marsh nature of this land has shifted and modernized (reclaimed land and a sea level’s worth of concrete & tar) ~ how so much has lost and how the force we have placed upon the land appears in the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual make up of the people here.
In collaborating with artists like Mo musically and visually ~ we are bringing the images and expressions of that nature we are from. Mo is from Eritrea and his family is originally from Ethiopia. I am from the Marshall Islands and my family and I are originally from the Philippines. Migrants be doing shit in code and in your face at the same dang time in the multiplicities and multitudes of our aligned survival, thrival, archival, revival, no rivals or idols, we vital, eat ital, this is the recital. You know what I mean?
As a creative and spiritual being, I am planting and implanting with others the energies of our motherlands. We carry our cultures in all we do.

The evening was sandwiched between beautiful offerings of all kinds from music to powerful adornments.
These beautiful graphics were created by the one and only Mo Beats (@mobeats89) & I wanted to feature them again on my website to re~present the type of art, skill, talent, love, and natural beauty that exists in Chicago as exemplified by these artists and people.
